Expand your patternmaking knowledge or learn from the ground up. Through hands-on techniques and class demonstrations, you’ll develop the skills to go from slopers to pattern manipulation. Establish the map for all your future designs.
This course covers 3-D draping techniques, helping you create base patterns for all patternmaking courses and projects. You’ll learn to use curves and measurements to “true” on pattern paper and produce muslin mock-ups of each working pattern. This course is ideal for anyone wanting to learn a new skill and has basic sewing experience, or those who have completed our Sewing 1 course. This course is transferable to the Fashion Certificate Program.*

Explore the fundamentals of patternmaking and build a strong foundation for all your future designs by creating your own set of slopers. After completing the course, you'll have custom bodice, skirt, pants, and sleeve slopers. If you're familiar with threading and winding a bobbin on an industrial machine, understand grain lines and seam allowances, can sew plain seams, or have taken our Sewing 1 or 2 courses, then this course is perfect for you! This course builds on what was learned in Patternmaking 1 and focuses on pattern manipulation. Transform slopers into complete garment patterns and add design details like darts, seams, gathers, pleats, and tucks. Develop skills to start creating skirts, pants, jumpsuits, jeans, collars, and more! This course is suitable for individuals with basic to intermediate sewing skills, or for those who have completed our Sewing 1 or 2 and Patternmaking 1 courses. This course is transferable to the Fashion Certificate Program.*

These courses are perfect if you want to learn a new skill, have basic sewing experience, or have completed our Sewing Basics workshop or Sewing 1 or 2 courses.

Yes. You will have assignments to work on at home throughout the course, so expect to spend 1-2 hours on homework each week.

Made Rittenhouse is open at 10 a.m. every day for staff, students, and members. New and returning students should arrive no more than 15 minutes before their class starts.

We invite parents, guardians, and friends to come in to say hello and chat with our staff. We kindly ask that anyone not participating in the class wait outside of Made at a location of their choice until the class ends. Made Institute’s Rittenhouse location is conveniently near many cafes, shops, and the famous Rittenhouse Square, offering you plenty of options to pass the time.

If you cancel your order by the original registration deadline, you will receive a full refund. If you cancel after this deadline but before the first class begins, you will receive a 50% refund. However, no refund will be provided for cancellations on or after the first day of class.

If you have completed and passed an in-person Patternmaking 1, 2, or Draping course at Made Rittenhouse, you can apply the course credit towards the Fashion Certificate Program. You won’t need to retake the class, and the cost will be deducted from your first tuition payment

If you know how to thread and wind a bobbin on an industrial machine, understand grain lines and seam allowances, and can sew plain seams, we recommend becoming a member or enrolling in our Patternmaking 2 courses or workshops. As a member, you can work on your personal projects in the studio throughout the week, refamiliarize yourself with the machines, or enhance and diversify your skills with our other course offerings.
