Build a creative workspace at home with tips from our CEO!

Working from home is here to stay.

With that being said, carving out a creative space for your sewing and designing at home is not just a want, it is a NEED. Whatever your passion, you will need a space that is conducive to that life.

Now, I know that space can be super limited... (I used to cut fabric on my studio apartment floor and sew on my coffee table). Before you write off the ability to create a sacred space, take a moment to look around your space to see what’s possible. With a quiet corner, some smart planning, and optimal furniture, your home creative hub will be ready for any projects!

No space is too small to start

An entire room is ideal, but good news - anywhere works.  Use that empty attic, a corner of your living room, or cloffice (yes, a closet-converted office). A work desk and a chair are your starting point!

Light, lots of light

A dull, poorly-lit area surely won’t spark any creativity. Natural light always works best, but make sure to have desk lamps around for night or rainy days.

Utilize your wall

Simple things like a peg board from Home Depot can be your best friend for creative moodboards and tools display. Plus, these are a subtle way to add personal touches and colors to your little craft corner.

Think about storage

In a small creative office, every inch is precious. You’ll want to have everything handy and organized for a continuous working flow, so utilize every space possible. Create vertical storage on the wall above the desk or get utility carts and storage boxes.

Touches of green with plant babies

Don’t forget a plant or two to remind you that there is life inside your apartment.

Make use of what you already have

Last but not least, creating a craft haven doesn’t mean excessive shopping and over-the-top decorating. Making space can mean a much-needed spring cleaning, a purge of unnecessary clutter, and a re-look at surfaces to create dual usage between studio and life. Repurpose the old tea table or reuse the storage boxes under your bed as long as it’s in good condition. A corner where you feel comfortable and motivated will always be what’s best for you.
